About Dorée
Dorée is a Brooklyn based artist, songwriter and musician.
A multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, they regularly play shows in venues and DIY spaces throughout NYC and have toured through states in the US, in both solo and band formation. Dorée’s songs combine folk, alternative, math, experimental and other elements to create a variety of unique sounds.
Born and raised in New York City, Dorée has been tapped into the art scene since childhood. They attended arts / performance camps and after school programs, wrote poetry, and came up with creative, melodic songs since before picking up guitar at 8 years old. Dorée played in middle school rock bands and choirs, performed in school wide performances, and participated in all other art-related extracurricular activities they could be a part of.
In their adolescent years, Dorée graduated from LaGuardia High School for voice (2018) and went on to study Contemporary Improvisation at New England Conservatory. They spent one year in this program before moving back home to New York.
Dorée went on to intern at Big Orange Sheep in 2019-20, assisting recording sessions, helping set up and break down sessions, and gaining hands-on experience about audio engineering. Here they learned the basics of recording themself and others.
In fall of 2021, Dorée was accepted into The New School’s first ever Songwriting program. 2021 was the first year The New School had an option to be a songwriting major, so Dorée was 1 of 5 students in this program. Due to the newness there was a lot of flexibility and freedom in this program, and Dorée request and was granted access to the drum kit practice rooms. Here they started practicing the drums 4 times a week and playing drums in a dear friend’s band, Amalia Juliane.
Dorée studied at The New School through Fall of 2022 before leaving to focus on their artistic and creative projects full time.
Currently, Dorée is working as a freelance artist, performing, producing podcasts, writing songs, and making jewelry out of recycled instrument strings to sell. Dorée frequently performs original music around the city in various forms; mostly with longtime bandmate / drummer Guy Paz, sometimes solo, and sometimes in larger ensembles. Dorée also takes regular trips to perform in Richmond, VA and Asheville, NC, where they’ve established community from playing shows in the past. When home, Dorée works as a podcast producer & creative director for a media company called ContentMint, and writes songs for a nonprofit called Songs of Love.
